Target announced on 11 August 2026 that Chandhu Nair would join as senior vice president and its first chief AI officer, and Purvi Shah would become senior vice president of user experience. The retailer gave 24 August as the effective date for both appointments.

Target described Nair's remit as coordinating AI across the retailer. He described inventory management and simpler tasks for employees as possible uses, and said he would start by listening to teams. Shah described responsibility for the systems and decisions behind experiences for customers, staff and partners.

Her example follows a shopper from inspiration on social media into a visual interface in Target's app, then to a store or an employee. Shah described this as an intended approach to joining up the experience.

For brand and ecommerce teams, the useful detail is the passage between channels. A customer should be able to recognise the item that caught their attention and understand how to continue towards a purchase. That gives designers a concrete subject for review: what a shopper has to carry from one interaction to the next, and what they must work out again.

A team can examine that passage before proposing another feature. For example, a review could follow one item from its campaign image to the information available at purchase. This is an editorial suggestion for evaluating a shopping journey, not a description of Target's internal process.

Target reported these appointments and intentions. The Human Input has not independently confirmed their implementation, reporting arrangements or results.
