The official GPT has retired

OpenAI’s current Images in ChatGPT help page confirms that the official DALL·E GPT has retired. The company directs people who want to create or edit images to ChatGPT Images. Its 31 July notice scheduled the retirement for 30 August 2026; the current confirmation gives no completion timestamp.

That July notice excluded user-created GPTs with image generation enabled. The current help page also says GPTs with that capability can use the new image-generation model.

Check the whole image after an edit

OpenAI warns that selections in the image editor are not always precise: a change may extend outside the highlighted area. That is a specific limitation to account for when moving an approved visual into another editing workflow.

For a fashion campaign, try an edit with a clear acceptance test. Ask for a background change while preserving the garment silhouette, fabric detail and any approved lettering. Compare the entire result with the original, including areas you did not ask to change. This is a proposed production check, not a test The Human Input has performed.

Replace links to the retired official GPT in team instructions, naming the replacement explicitly. Keep the approved source image alongside the revised file so another collaborator can review what changed.

What the notice does not settle

The retirement notice concerns the official GPT inside ChatGPT. It does not establish the status of any specific API integration. OpenAI also asked people to download images they wanted to keep before retirement; these sources do not establish what remains recoverable in an individual account.
