OpenAI’s visual-ad announcement describes a test during image generation for ChatGPT Free and Go users. The company says ads will carry labels and remain separate from the image the user creates. It planned to begin testing later in the announcement month in the United States with an initial advertiser group. The retained source does not establish that the test has started or that any advertiser can buy the placement.
For a creative team, that distinction affects the brief. The announcement does not say that a brand’s product will become part of a user’s generated image. Before quoting production, obtain the requirements for the actual booked placement, including image specifications, labeling and the review process. A general announcement cannot supply those delivery details.
Agree what a result means
OpenAI also describes conversion-data integrations and attribution partners, alongside early work on incrementality experiments. These cover different questions. Attributed conversions describe outcomes connected to a defined tracking method; an incrementality experiment tries to estimate what the advertising caused. A client should know which question a report answers.
For a hypothetical pilot, agree the event to count, the attribution window and the comparison before making the creative. Keep the production cost and revision work in the account of the pilot. This is a proposed planning approach, not a report of a campaign we ran. We omit the announcement’s partner performance figures because they cannot establish the result another brand would achieve.
Confirm the placement conditions
The company describes placement guardrails and says qualifying advertisers can use Negative Phrases for narrower brand requirements. It also discusses controlled brand-suitability pilots with DoubleVerify and Integral Ad Science. Those statements describe OpenAI’s program and its intended safeguards; they do not certify that a particular campaign meets a client’s requirements.
Use the announcement to prepare questions for a media partner. Confirm access and current test status, then request the placement specification and measurement definitions. A producer can scope the assets once those answers exist, while retaining the client’s normal product, talent and usage-permission checks.
